About 70% of the ongoing maintenance of Ford Park is carried out by volunteers supported by our Community Link Gardener and Volunteer Manager.
We have a fabulous team of volunteers aged from 16 to 76! The friendly atmosphere and continual development at Ford Park are highly dependent on the skills, enthusiasm and hard work of volunteers whether they are gardening, running events or family activities, serving refreshments or taking part in planning meetings. Volunteers are from varied backgrounds and include young people doing Duke of Edinburgh Award community hours, unemployed people, retired professionals, people with health problems, students on placement and people with learning difficulties.
Providing opportunities for ongoing personal development through regular workshops, trips and training courses is one way we can give something back to our wonderful volunteers.
Many volunteers use their time at Ford Park to gain work experience or increase their confidence to assist with a significant transition in life such as returning to work after illness, applying to college or university or living independently.
New volunteers are always welcome whether its to help with the long term management of the park or to assist with a specific project. Currently we need skills in: gardening, bricklaying, plumbing, arts and crafts, event management, woodwork and drystone walling but most importantly enthusiasm and a willingness to give things a go.
