Community Room Project

Looking for updates on the new community room at Ford Park?

Then, you’re in the right place…

We’ll be sharing updates on the progress of our new Community Room right here, so you can follow the journey and see how the build is coming along.

Funded by the GSK Legacy Fund, this new space will help us create much-needed income to support the day-to-day care of Ford Park, making the park more sustainable for future generations to enjoy.

When we add updates, we’ll let you know via our newsletter and social media accounts, so don’t forget to sign up for all the latest news and follow us on Facebook and Instagram!

Update following a meeting with the architects.

The Ford Park team met recently with the architects (Architecture Unknown) to discuss the project. They will be pulling together the tender pack in the next week or two and we should be ready to put the tender pack out for quotes very soon. In the meantime we’ll be looking at the materials for the building to make final decisions on the materials to be used both internally and externally.

We have also received an updated Quantity Survey which suggests that the cost of the project is going to be much higher than anticipated and we may need to reconsider the office cabin in order to ensure that the main community space can still be built to the right standard and quality. This doesn’t mean that the office cabin won’t happen, we plan to install the services and foundation for the cabin but it will likely be completed at a later date instead.

Careful Tree & Habitat Work Begins at Ford Park

Work has begun with Moray and our volunteers carefully clearing a small area of trees and shrubs to make way for the new Community Room.

We know how important the trees and wildlife habitats at Ford Park are, so we’re approaching this work with real care and in keeping with the ethos of the park, removing as little as possible and protecting the natural environment around the build.

As part of the planning application, a tree survey was carried out and the building has been sited to avoid the major trees. Over the next few weeks, we’ll also be bringing in a qualified tree surgeon to remove a couple of larger trees that can’t be avoided, and this will be done before nesting season begins.

Receiving £610,000 from the GSK Legacy Fund

After months of work developing the proposal, Ford Park has secured funding that will enable the charity to build a new, more accessible community space to support the park’s long-term future. The building will allow Ford Park to host bigger events and fundraisers, expand educational visits and create more opportunities for the local community to use and enjoy the park.
