Last week we saw the official opening of the new park path at Ford Park.
Frequent visitors to Ford Park will know that our lovely green space can sometimes get a little… soggy. Thanks to the good ol’ Cumbrian weather, parts of the park can get quite muddy—not just in winter, but all year round!
But thanks to our wonderful funders and supporters, the new perimeter path means the park is now far more accessible to lots of people, no matter what the weather.
Big projects like this don’t just happen overnight, in fact the initial discussions began back in 2018. Since then, costs have escalated but we’ve been incredibly fortunate to receive generous funding from several organisations.
A huge thank you from our trustees goes out to:
Ulverston BID – £10,000.00
Bernard Sunley Foundation – £5,000.00
Ulverston Town Council Community Infrastructure Levy – £11,210.00
Shared Prosperity Fund via Active Cumbria – £16,000.00
ParkRun Participants - £1029.50
Park Members and Supporters - £885.00
We would also like to say thank you to local company, Luscombe’s Plant Hire, who have done a wonderful job of the path and worked with us to ensure we protected tree roots and other natural elements and helped us to complete this project on budget.
Shirley-Anne Wilson, Deputy Mayor of Ulverston and Chair of Ulverston Community Group, preformed the opening ceremony and cut the ribbon, before leading funders, community members, park users, and park volunteers along the new path to the Williams Room for light refreshments.
The new path is wheelchair and pushchair friendly, and ParkRun have had not one, but 2 record weeks for runners since it was completed and the feedback from park users has been very positive.
