Frequent visitors to Ford Park will know that our lovely green space can sometimes get a little… soggy. Thanks to the good ol’ Cumbrian weather, parts of the park can get quite muddy—not just in winter, but all year round! 🌧️
For many, that’s part of the charm. But for those with pushchairs, less mobility, or just trying to keep their trainers clean, it can make certain areas of the park tricky to navigate. That’s why we’re so excited to announce that we are officially moving forward with our long-awaited pathway project!
The new path will make the park far more accessible for everyone, including groups like ParkRun, dog walkers, families with young children, and anyone who loves a good stroll around our beautiful park. Whether you're running, walking, or pushing a pram, this will ensure you can enjoy the park, no matter the weather.
We are thrilled to announce that work will officially begin on Monday 30th September and will be carried out by a local company, Luscomes Plant Hire. The pathway should take around four weeks to complete, so we’ll have a lovely new pathway ready for winter.
Who’s Making This Happen? 💪
Big projects like this don’t just happen overnight, and we’ve been incredibly fortunate to receive generous funding from several organisations. A massive thank you goes out to:
Ulverston BID – £10,000.00
Bernard Sunley Foundation – £5,000.00
Ulverston Town Council Community Infrastructure Levy – £11,210.00
Shared Prosperity Fund via Active Cumbria – £16,000.00
Together, we’ve raised nearly everything we need, but we’re still £2,000 short of our target.
This final bit will also allow us to improve the path that runs along the driveway—an area that tends to get particularly water waterlogged over the winter, making it unusable.
ParkRunners have been adding monies to our donation bucket over the last couple of weeks which is wonderful, and we are hoping that other park users can support this project and help us raise the last £1500.00
