New Beds, Fresh Soil, and a View Worth Stopping For

When you step out from the Williams Room onto the terrace, you step into a beautiful space with stunning views across the garden, up to Hoad, and out towards Morecambe Bay. It’s a lovely place to simply pause and soak it all in.

It’s also why the terrace works so beautifully for summer weddings, parties and get-togethers. When the doors are open and people spill outside, it becomes part of the celebration - relaxing, welcoming and special.

Earlier this year, a brilliant team from Siemens volunteered for the day to help us clear out the old beds on the terrace, ready for the structure to be replaced. It was a big job and it made such a difference having extra hands to get everything shifted and cleared.

Over the last few weeks, Simon, one of our wonderful volunteers, has kindly built beautiful new beds. Volunteers have been working alongside him to get everything ready, and this week we had a delivery of fresh topsoil, which volunteers have used to fill the new beds.

Shifting all that topsoil is a messy job this time of year, and despite all the rain, Simon still found himself needing to jet wash the terrace…

Now the beds are in and filled, we’re looking forward to planting them up and seeing this area come to life again. It’s one of those behind-the-scenes projects that quietly improves the experience for everyone whether you’re popping in for an event, enjoying the view after a walk, or celebrating something special with family and friends.

A huge thank you to the Siemens team, to Simon, and to all our volunteers who’ve helped make this happen. And to Hazel and the green-fingered volunteers who will now transform this space with beautiful plants and flowers.
